|
Oil seal is a component that prevents oil or lubricants from leaking out of the rotating parts of machinery and blocks external dust or contaminants from entering the machinery. |
|
|
It is primarily used between rotating shafts and stationary parts, and is utilized in various fields such as automobiles, industrial machinery, and home appliances. |
|
|
Oil seal helps ensure smooth operation of machinery by preventing oil or grease from leaking out of the lubrication system. It also blocks dust, water, and other contaminants from entering the machinery, protecting its performance and extending the lifespan of the equipment. oil seal is made from various materials, so it is important to select the appropriate material depending on the usage environment. |

NBR (Nitrile Rubber) is widely used as a general-purpose material due to its excellent oil resistance and low cost. It is particularly effective in environments with fluids such as petroleum, fuel, and lubricants, and it performs reliably within a temperature range of -40℃ to 120℃. Additionally, it is highly resistant to wear. However, its performance can diminish in high-temperature environments, and it has weaker resistance to certain chemicals such as acids and strong alkalis. |

|
Silicone has excellent heat resistance, maintaining flexibility even in extreme temperatures ranging from -50℃ to over +200℃. For this reason, it is widely used in various fields such as automotive, aerospace, and high-temperature machinery. However, its oil resistance is lower than that of NBR, so its performance may decline in environments where it comes into contact with fuel. |

Viton can be used in high-temperature (up to 250℃) and high-pressure environments, offering excellent chemical resistance. It has strong resistance to fluids such as fuel, chemicals, and oil, making it commonly used in the automotive, petroleum, and chemical industries. However, it is expensive, and its flexibility in low-temperature environments is lower compared to silicone. |

|
If grease is not applied before installing oil seal, friction may increase, shortening the seal's lifespan. It is important to apply proper lubrication early on to reduce wear and maintain the seal's performance. Applying grease to the inner diameter of the seal before installation can help prevent initial wear. |
|
|
2) Material Selection Based on Operating Environment |
|
|
The commonly supplied Oil seal is general-purpose, but in high-pressure, high-speed, high-temperature, or chemical environments, sealing functions may be compromised. It is essential to check whether the material is suitable for the operating temperature and chemicals of the specific environment. For example, in cases involving high temperatures or chemical exposure, oil seal made with Viton, which offers excellent heat and chemical resistance, is appropriate, while oil seal made with NBR, known for superior oil resistance and cost-effectiveness, is suitable for typical petroleum environments. |

|
3) Selecting the Correct Size |
|
|
The inner diameter of Oil seal should ideally be slightly smaller than the shaft dimensions. This ensures a tight fit on the shaft, preventing oil leakage and blocking external contaminants. When Oil seal is installed, compression occurs; if the inner diameter is too large, the seal will not fit tightly, leading to leakage. Conversely, if the inner diameter is too small, installation may become difficult, or the seal could be damaged. Therefore, it is crucial to measure the shaft's exact dimensions and choose a properly sized seal for the rotating shaft. |

To maintain the machine’s performance, regularly check the condition of Oil seal and replace it immediately if any wear or damage is detected. |
